Guidelines for Club runs
Each vehicle must have:
- Spare tire in good shape and proper size.
- Lug wrench
- Jack. (stock on is OK, but the club recommends a hydraulic bottle jack
and a Hi-Lift or Jack-all.)
- Shovel. (a folding one is OK)
- Fire extinguisher. (should be mounted horizontally)
- Tug strap. 20,000 lb capacity min. No hooks on the ends.
Don't scrimp on this, you get what you pay for and these thing can really
hurt you.
- Some spare engine oil, power steering fluid, tranny fluid, 4 liter jug
of water for the rad.
- Small garbage bag. A few big ones wouldn't hurt. They can be
used for ground sheets, rain gear, garbage bags...
- Drinking water. (the club would also recommend carrying some extra food
over and above what you may have brought for the day. You never know
when something might prevent you from getting home that night. It has
never happened on one of our outings but it is always best to be prepared.
The Club recommends that you have:
- First Aid kit.
- Small tool set. (A minimum set would consist of; some combination
wrenches, a small socket set, a pair of pliers, some screwdrivers, any
special tool that may help in a field fix, such as a hub socket for example,
some type of gasket making material, silicone etc)
- Spare belts.
- Spare parts. (You don't have to pack along a spare truck, just some
things that would help get the vehicle home if something minor screwed up.
Things like : A fuel filter, a universal fit rad hose, and ignition module,
etc)
- Axe.
- Flashlight
- CB Radio. (a cell phone would be OK, but you are going to miss the great
conversations on driving styles, the weather, the flora and fauna, etc.)
- Hand winch, or "Come Along".
- Jumper cables
- Some kind of paper product to deal with the call of nature. (Ladies;
please don't leave the toilet paper in the bush after you have tinkled, put
it into the garbage bag in the vehicle. Fore nature calls of the other
variety, please dig a hole and bury the stuff! This, of course applies to
the guys too!! 8^)
All these items should be fastened down in some fashion.
